Munnar comes from the Tamil word “moon-aar” which means three rivers. It is believed to be referring to the confluence of Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala Rivers. Munnar is sitting in the Idukki district, Kerala, India and is approximately three hours away from Kochi.

The 90 km sq sanctuary is unique with its floral, ecological, geomorphologic and cultural significance. Chinnar is a unique thorny scrub forest with xerophyte species. This sanctuary is one among the 12 protected areas of Kerala.

Marayoor – The Hub of Sandalwood Trees is located forty km from Munnar, is a rain shadow village lying in the eastern side of the Western Ghats and is bordered by the neighbouring state Tamil Nadu. Marayoor as a pristine, heavenly and unexplored tourist spot is comparable to Munnar which is one of the most sought after hill stations in India in every respect. The place is especially an excellent trekking spot for adventure seekers.

Kundala is a picturesque place, about 20 km from Munnar on the way to Top Station. In Kundala, cherry blossoms appear twice in a year. The famous Neela Kurunji flowers which bloom once in twelve years, bloom in the hills and valleys around Kundala lake.

Another attraction is Echo Point which got its name from natural echo phenomenon situated at a scenic lake bank. When you scream at here, you will be hearing your voice returning to you. Echo Point always has a greenish look as it is covered with abundant green sceneries. Top Station, located around 32 km away from Munnar, is the highest point (1700m) in Munnar, on the Munnar-Kodaikkanal road.   1. Day 1 Visit the Munnar

    Visit the Munnar main town and explore the Munnar city. Next Visit the Kundala One of the major attractions in Munar. Kundala Lake has the historical dam which shares its name with the lake. Riding through the tranquil waters of Kundala Lake on a Shikara boat in the midst of eternal greenery is something many honeymooners will yearn for.

    Visit Top Station which is just 20 minutes away from Kundala lake. The 5500 feet high destination is a blissful viewpoint for a panoramic visuals of the Western Ghats and the beautiful valley of Theni in Tamil Nadu.   3. Day 3 Take a tour

    Take a tour Tea plantation today. A trip to Munnar will be incomplete without having a visit to these tea plantations. Munnar is a place known for its beautiful tea estates and tea cultivation

    Visit the tea factory. Enjoy the experience of witnessing the complete tea-making process from leaf picking to tea processing and then packaging. If you wish, you can be a part of the ‘Make your tea’ program where along the pickers; you pick the leaves from the estate and process it yourself in their miniature factory.

    Later visit an Echo Point Situated on the banks of a lake, the calm and serenity of this place are enchanting. You can indulge in a peaceful walk around the gentle slopes of the hills here, or go for boating in the serene waters of the lake. Echo point is a paradise for birdwatchers, as many native birds can be spotted here.

  4. Day-4 Start for the Marayoor today

    Start for the Marayoor today. Marayoor is the only place in God’s Own Country that has a natural growth of Sandalwood Trees. Its legendary product is famous across the country and has competed on equal terms with other areas with larger pockets of Sandalwood Forests, especially in Southern India.

    The rare neelakurunji flowers that blooms once in every 12 years is native to this place. This is one of the top attractions you must include in Munnar packages.

    The ruins of Stone Age civilization, which are older than 10,000 BC have been discovered here. The Stone Age structured of Megalithic Dolmens (chambers made of four stones placed on edges and covered with the cap stone) are located in Muniyara near Kovilkadavu (5 kms).

    Apart from Dolmens, Marayoor is also famous for ancient rock paintings located in Attala, Ezhuthu Guha (near Kovilkadavu) and Manala. Attala is situated in the west part of Marayur Township and has more than 90 painted motifs. Most of the paintings at Attala are abstract designs except for a few human and animal figures.
